Program Mission

Leadership Bartlett’s mission is to provide a fundamental understanding of the prerequisites needed to promote and sustain economic growth and stability within a community and illustrate why strong leadership is essential. Develop an appreciation for the responsibilities of both the public and private sectors and show how their concerted efforts enhance society’s well-being.

Leadership Bartlett actively solicits applications from all sectors of the community. A maximum of 25 participants make up the class. 

Participants represent all areas of the community and generally should have: 

  • A desire to become aware of community issues

  • A desire for personal growth opportunities 

  • A desire to continue community education and action through the Leadership Bartlett Alumni Association 

During the program, class members will get to know each other, establish bonds and perspectives which will enhance their community leadership effectiveness.

  • To provide the participant a first-hand perspective from those within the community in leadership positions. Each session is tailored to address a significant aspect of the community that is essential to its sustainability. 

  • To educate and challenge the participants as to the needs of the community, as well as the dynamics of the decision-making process. 

  • To develop a network among the participants that provides a common ground for working together in the future. 

  • To create a dialogue and rapport between the participants and existing community leaders.

Engage

The program begins with an orientation during which class members become acquainted with each other, are introduced to the history and growth of the Bartlett area, and participate in a leadership exercise. In addition, the class will be involved in recommending and designing a community project from concept to completion..

Lead

The class then meets twice a month exploring the behind the scenes leadership and operations of Bartlett and Shelby County. An overnight trip to Nashville to experience the State Legislature is a highlight of the program

Succeed

At the graduation dinner, plaques are presented to those who complete the course. The class also presents a community project which they have created. Upon graduating, class members are welcomed into the Leadership Bartlett Alumni Association as new members.

Tuition

The 2026 tuition fee is $850, with an early bird special of $750 until Nov. 15, 2025. Your Leadership Bartlett tuition covers all expenses, including speakers, graduation and the first year’s dues in the Leadership Bartlett Alumni Association. Businesses and organizations often offer to sponsor participants in Leadership Bartlett due to the many benefits it provides.

*Note: In order to accomplish the objectives of Leadership Bartlett, the full participation of each individual is necessary. Attendance at the retreat is mandatory, and 80% attendance is required for the other sessions unless prior notification has been received.
