Bartlett - A Top 100 Community

LEADERSHIP BARTLETT

PURPOSE

LEADERSHIP BARTLETT is a leadership development program designed to identify and build a core group of citizens committed to being involved in the planning and implementation of community development programs for the betterment of the Bartlett area.

"As a graduate of the Bartlett Leadership 2007, I was overwhelmed with the wealth of information I learned. The sessions provided me with an inside look at the inner-workings of this community in a way I had never seen. Even though I have been a life long resident of Bartlett, this program has equipped me to take a more active approach through planning and developing programs for the betterment of Bartlett."

Jason A. Sykes, Lifeblood
Class of 2007

OBJECTIVES

"Even as a Bartlett High graduate, I really didn't know all the unique and interesting facts about Bartlett until I went through Leadership Bartlett. It really made me appreciative of
MY city that much more."

Don Todd, Todd Appraisal
Class of 1995

PARTICIPANTS

LEADERSHIP BARTLETT actively solicits applications from all sectors of the community. A maximum of 30 people will have the opportunity to participate each year. Participants will represent all sectors of the community and generally should exhibit these characteristics:

During the program class members will get to know each other and establish bonds and perspectives which will enhance their community leadership effectiveness and their understanding of the community's interaction.

"The whole experience was awesome to me! I had no idea how much Bartlett has going on, and how many opportunities it has to offer its citizens!"

Carolyn Shakelford, Brother International Corporation
Class of 2006

STRUCTURE

The program begins with a one-day retreat during which class members become acquainted with each other, are introduced to the history and growth of the Bartlett area, and participate in a leadership exercise.

The class meets twice a month for 9 half-day sessions plus a two-night trip to Nashville. A welcome reception will be held at the beginning of January for class members and Leadership Bartlett alumni.

Class participants are required to attend the retreat and 80% of the sessions to be entitled to graduate from this program. A total commitment of time is required to achieve a complete education in each subject area. A Graduation Dinner is planned for the class and alumni where plaques will be presented to those successfully completing the program.

Each session is designed to stimulate and educate the class on the session topic; for example, the Media session shows the inter-workings of the media, not only TV but radio and newspaper.

EMPLOYER BENEFITS

The employee will gain from this program through the class member's:

"As a graduate of Leadership Bartlett 1997, I became friends with people who were appreciative of what Bartlett had to offer, passionate about making Bartlett a better place through civic involvement, and learned how government on a state and local level plays a role in our everyday life. I learned through the sessions on business, education, the media, etc. how they contributed to the quality of Bartlett life.  I would recommend it to anyone!"
